Give American indie rocker Kevin Morby the status of a cult hero without hesitation — he’s more than earned it. Ever since his debut album ‘Harlem River’ (2013), Morby has been adored by fans and the music press alike, even if he’s never quite broken into the mainstream. His music may simply have edges that are a bit too sharp for that.
Across his rich discography, Kevin Morby has evolved from the nostalgic indie folk of his debut and its follow-up ‘Still Life’ (2014) toward an increasingly robust sound, drawing on garage and ’70s rock influences and ever-richer instrumentation to support his narrative lyrics. Like a modern incarnation of great American songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, and Leonard Cohen, he manages to introduce a new sound with each record without losing sight of the whole.
Kevin Morby’s most recent album, ‘This Is A Photograph’ (2022), is his most exuberant to date. On stage, he’s now backed by an expanded band. Nine years after his powerful appearance at Cactusfestival in 2017, we’re delighted to welcome the singer-songwriter — now fully grown into a mature rocker — back to Minnewaterpark.
