| The Irish Madra Salach (‘Dirty Dog’ in Gaeilge) combine the forward-thinking folk of Lankum with the attitude of their fellow countrymen Fontaines D.C.. The six-piece from Dublin built a solid reputation over the past year in their hometown’s vibrant live scene and maintain an intense touring schedule. Despite their short existence, they have already played support shows for, among others, Kim Deal and delivered fiercely acclaimed performances at leading showcase festivals such as The Great Escape, Left of The Dial and Eurosonic. We saw them there in January receiving a standing ovation after what was without a doubt one of the strongest shows of the festival. The band members met in the Dublin indie scene and quickly discovered their shared love for Irish folk traditionals. Inspired by the experimental Irish folk scene, they expanded their traditional instrumentation with electronic elements and began writing their own arrangements and songs. Their debut EP ‘Blue & Gold’ was released earlier this year and confirmed the suspicion that Madra Salach might well become the new breakthrough in the folk landscape. But it is especially live that Madra Salach show their full potential: raw, intense and authentic. |
