The British band Editors is one of the biggest rock acts of our time. With a track record of more than forty concerts on Belgian soil — including appearances at Werchter and Pukkelpop as well as shows in the country’s largest arenas — the group around frontman Tom Smith holds true mega-headliner status in the Low Countries. So what do you do when you’ve played all the major stages? Seeking out special locations and more intimate settings might be the answer — something for which Cactusfestival is, of course, perfectly suited.

The overwhelming indie rock sound Editors embrace today is the result of more than 20 years of evolution as a band. With their debut ‘The Back Room’ in 2007 and their first hit ‘Munich’, they conquered their homeland, and in Belgium the live version of ‘No Sound But The Wind’, recorded at Werchter in 2010, reached the top of the Ultratop charts. The dark post-punk with a touch of gothic from their early days was later complemented on subsequent albums with synth-pop (think of the 2010 album ‘In This Light And On This Evening’ — and the mighty single ‘Papillon’), arena rock, and electronic body music.

For that latest shift, Editors brought Benjamin John Power (Fuck Buttons, Blanck Mass) on board as a new band member. The result — the aptly titled ‘EBM’ (2022) — marks another bold step forward for the band. But the core remains intact. Even halfway through the second millennium, Editors is a group unafraid to take risks, pairing darkness and depth with sharp pop sensibilities and grand gestures. On Sunday evening, they’ll sweep across Bruges’ Minnewaterpark. You won’t want to miss it!
