| In a sparkling explosion of confetti, the Ghent-based combo Lézard suddenly seems to be everywhere. Their debut album ‘Que Se Passe-t-il’ had Belgian music journalists from Humo to De Standaard reaching for the phone, and with their coquettish version of ‘Rock Lobster’ on Ik vraag het aan they won over the entire panel – including an even more impressively grinning-than-usual Aaron Blommaert. For those who keep an eye on the exciting laboratory of Belpop, Lézard comes as no surprise, of course. As the East Flemish laureate of the talent development programme Sound Track, the band has been intensively prepped for several years in the belly of our live music sector. After a number of well-received singles and precisely targeted shows, Lézard is now fully ready for the next step with their debut album. We can already predict it: this is going to be tremendously fun! Because with their dazzling mix of post-punk, disco, glam rock, new wave and electroclash, Lézard ventures into uncharted territory. A splash of powder-sniffed Studio 54 decadence here, a touch of absurdist Devo and danceable Talking Heads there, a greasy layer of indie sleaze on top – and hop, there’s Lézard, the most delightful Belgian indie candy of the moment! |
