In 2025, Slowdive is the most important shoegaze band of the moment. They may have always been the best, but in their early years, the music press, bored with the genre, ruthlessly sidelined the band. After releasing two albums in the 1990s, Slowdive burned out and went on hiatus.

Normally, this would mean a band fades into obscurity, but the beautiful ‘Souvlaki’ (1994) continued to circulate, gradually becoming a cult classic. In 2017, Slowdive returned out of nowhere with a self-titled comeback album, which this time made a massive impact. Six years later, the group confirmed expectations with ‘Everything Is Alive’ (2023): Slowdive isn’t just back, they’ve become even better than in their first phase.

No other band masters the subtle balance between overwhelming walls of sound and soothing melodies like Slowdive. It’s as if the concept of beauty is being blown into your face with the force of nature, leaving you with no choice but to completely surrender. Live, the band, fronted by songwriting duo Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell, performs with the confidence of veterans throwing themselves into the future with full enthusiasm. Their 2024 festival appearances, including Rock Werchter and Best Kept Secret, ranked among the year’s best, and their concert at de Roma sold out in a heartbeat. Not only is Slowdive now playing to larger audiences than ever, but thanks to the shoegaze revival, they are one of the few bands whose audience keeps getting younger.

Perhaps Slowdive is proof that beautiful music always finds a way, no matter the trends, hypes, or gatekeepers. Whatever the case, we are fairly certain they’ll deliver one of the most stunning sunset concerts The Lake of Love has ever witnessed.
