Since their debut album ‘The Big Come Up’ in 2002, singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney have formed the inseparable duo The Black Keys. With their simultaneously vintage-sounding and timeless take on blues rock, the duo effortlessly broke away from the pack of garage rock bands of the early 2000s.

After their third album, ‘Attack & Release’ (2008), produced by Danger Mouse, The Black Keys really took off. ‘Tighten Up’, from their breakthrough album ‘Brothers’ (2010), earned them three Grammy Awards. The follow-up, ‘El Camino’ (2011), featuring the mega-hit ‘Lonely Boy’, became one of the biggest releases of that year. Since then, Auerbach and Carney have been fixtures at major summer festivals and in the largest concert venues. The riffs of anthems like ‘Fever’, ‘Wild Child’, ‘Howlin’ For You’, and ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ are firmly etched into the collective memory of guitar-loving music fans. The combination of Auerbach’s soulful voice and guitar work with Carney’s energetic drumming is the ultimate formula for a Black Keys track.

After 20 years in the industry, The Black Keys wanted to shake up their modus operandi by inviting others to tinker with their well-oiled machine. For their latest album, ‘Ohio Players’ (2024), the duo collaborated extensively with Beck, one of their earliest supporters. Contributions also came from Noel Gallagher, cult hip-hop producer Dan The Automator, rappers Juicy J and Lil Noid, and Leon Michels of El Michels Affair. The result is energetic and fun, with the effortless cool we’ve come to expect from the Keys. Roll down the window of your Cadillac El Camino, throw on your shades, and cruise to Cactusfestival!
